What evidence should I collect for a wildfire mitigation review?
Prepared by CertiDwell · Updated September 5, 2026. General preparation guidance; individual evidence requirements should be confirmed with your agent or insurer.
Start with the documents you already have. Ask your agent which evidence the insurer needs for your property; this preparation guide does not establish eligibility or a discount.
Collect by measure
| Feature | Useful starting evidence | What may still need confirmation |
|---|---|---|
| Roof | Contractor invoice or specification showing the roof assembly and rating | The rating, installation and the insurer’s documentation requirements |
| Vents | Product identification and installation photos | Product specifications and coverage of all relevant vents |
| Windows and eaves | Specifications, wider views and detail photos | Construction details that a photograph cannot establish |
| Wall base and immediate surroundings | Several contextual views, with measurements where relevant | Dimensions, hidden areas and current conditions |
| Community recognition | Official listing or recognition document | Whether this address is within the recognized community |
Keep original PDFs and legible images. Include dates and notes explaining which feature each file shows. Do not upload unrelated financial or identity documents. Missing photo metadata is not proof of fraud; your agent may ask for another way to establish when or where the image was taken.
Build a usable file
- Add the property and actual renewal deadline.
- Save evidence against each relevant measure; flag anything you do not understand.
- Invite your existing agent, who receives access after accepting the invitation and consent.
- Request review. Agent acceptance means the agent reviewed the evidence; the insurer still decides.
