Prepare mitigation documents before your insurance renewal

Prepared by CertiDwell · Updated September 5, 2026. General preparation guidance; individual evidence requirements should be confirmed with your agent or insurer.

Use the actual date on your policy or non-renewal notice. Contact your licensed agent promptly if coverage is ending; gathering evidence does not extend coverage or guarantee a replacement policy.

A practical preparation sequence

  1. Record the deadline and confirm it with your agent. In CertiDwell, a participant-entered deadline is identified separately from a general estimated reminder.
  2. Gather existing invoices, specifications and recognition documents.
  3. Photograph relevant current conditions and label missing or uncertain information.
  4. Request agent review early enough to respond to follow-up questions.
  5. Ask your agent to confirm the insurer’s requirements and any actual submission or coverage outcome.

The time needed depends on missing documents, work still to do and response times. No standard fifteen-minute completion time applies to every home. General photo-refresh reminders are preparation prompts, not carrier rules.

Work already done

Keep the original evidence and note any later changes to the property. An older invoice may describe permanent work, while a recent photo can document a current condition. Ask the recipient what needs updating rather than assume all evidence expires on the same schedule.

Start your preparation file, read the evidence guide or import known deadlines for existing cases.
